Casting Bodies & Deflocculants
Casting bodies (as powder) must be mixed with water and deflocculant. The optimum deflocculant and water addition must be determined in a series of deflocculant tests since this is not only dependent on the clay powder, but also on the degree of hardness of the water.
Alternatively, we deliver ready-to-use casting slips filled in buckets, quickly sucking, for the casting of blanks out of the casting mould. If the consistency is too thick, it must be diluted with water (especially in the case of full-casting moulds, for example a plate) and thoroughly stirred with a rod before use - in this case, air inclusions must be avoided. Pour the casting slip into the mould to the top of the mould. Leave the slip in the mould until desired wall thickness has been reached. Rest the mould until the blank can be carefully removed out of the mould. Clean up the seams in the leather-hard condition with a potter's knife, fettle the piece with a sponge, and allow it to dry.
Note:
The casting slips are generally thixotropic, i.e. they thicken in the resting state. Please do not add water immediately if the casting slip seems to be too thick - because a thixotropically adjusted body becomes liquid again by simple stirring.
